We got in to Las Vegas yesterday and have been having a blast! Too busy to update blog! Yesterday we watched a flair bartending show at our hotel bar Kahunaville. So neat! We made friends with another couple our age and they taught us how to play craps. Ashley rolled well and Matt made money so everyone is happy! Today we saw Paris, the Planet Holleywood Miracle Mile Mall, Caesar's Palace, and the Bellagio fountains. We saw a show tonight, Cirque du Soleil Mystere. We agree it was fabulous. Tonight we are headed to Freemont Street!
Pictures, stories and fun facts during our road trip around the USA!

Hoover Dam
Today we drove into Nevada, rode across the Hoover Dam, took pictures at Lake Mead, and walked on the newly finished bridge overlooking the dam. Now we are headed to Vegas!

Glen Canyon
Today was our Grand Canyon day... ironically we never saw the Grand Canyon except from afar. Instead we took the most amazing still water raft tour down 13 miles of the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, which is just north of the Grand Canyon, from Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry. The dam is the second largest of its kind behind the Hoover Dam, which we will see tomorrow, and is only 16 feet shorter than Hoover. The water in Glen Canyon stays around 47 degrees all year... and yes, we did stick our feet in! But our favorite part of all was probably going around Horseshoe Bend. In fact, after rafting, we hiked 1.5 miles in the desert to take pictures of it from above. We saw so much and enjoyed Glen Canyon enough that we decided to skip the Grand Canyon. We are off to Nevada!
The Southwest
We had a very interesting drive yesterday... even got our first glimpse of the Grand Canyon! Things we have learned so far... Gainesville has the highest gas prices in the Southeast; Southwesterners love their Dairy Queen; there is a lot of undeveloped land in the US!

Albuquerque
We stayed just outside Albuquerque last night. It is really a neat town. We also learned some fun facts about Albuquerque:
It was founded in the early 1700s.
It is the highest elevated metropolitan city in the US at more than a mile high (no wonder our ears were popping!).
There are a lot of adobe homes! Even our Econolodge was adobe style.
The Subway does not carry swiss cheese...very odd.

New Mexico
We have crossed the border into New Mexico and are planning to stop somewhere past Albuquerque for the night. It has been really neat to see the differences in terrain among the states like the flat open fields of Texas to now the clay and plateaus in New Mexico.
