Glen Canyon

Today was our Grand Canyon day... ironically we never saw the Grand Canyon except from afar. Instead we took the most amazing still water raft tour down 13 miles of the Colorado River in Glen Canyon, which is just north of the Grand Canyon, from Glen Canyon Dam to Lees Ferry. The dam is the second largest of its kind behind the Hoover Dam, which we will see tomorrow, and is only 16 feet shorter than Hoover. The water in Glen Canyon stays around 47 degrees all year... and yes, we did stick our feet in! But our favorite part of all was probably going around Horseshoe Bend. In fact, after rafting, we hiked 1.5 miles in the desert to take pictures of it from above. We saw so much and enjoyed Glen Canyon enough that we decided to skip the Grand Canyon. We are off to Nevada!

  2. One of my favorite places.. what an engineering feat! We took the tour of the dam when we were there, and it was awesome.
